AAU files for Conciliation
As the Atlantic Academic Union reached the Strike Deadline of January 15, 2024, they continued their efforts to reach a settlement on outstanding issues. On Friday, January 19, 2024 it became clear to the AAU Negotiation Team that the outstanding issues could not be resolved without assistance of a neutral third party and as a result they filed for Conciliation with the province.
AAU and NSCC commence bargaining
After an immensely successful Negotiation Mandate vote (the first time the AU has done such a thing) the Atlantic Academic Union (formerly known as the NSCCAU) served notice on July 4, 2023 to NSCC that it was ready to commence bargaining.
Negotiation Mandate Voting Results
The results of your negotiation mandate vote are in and NSCCAU members have voted overwhelmingly in support of the mandate, which gives a defined period of negotiation with our employer, with a strike deadline of January 15, 2024.
Access to Human Rights Commission
The issue of unionized employees’ access to the Human Rights Commission continues to raise concerns.
NSCCAU Files Grievance Student Service Counsellors
The NSCCAU has filed a grievance with the NSCC with respect to Student Services Counsellors – Personal and Career positions.
Casual Grievance Settlement
On Thursday Jan 12th, 2023 the Nova Scotia Community College Academic Union (NSCCAU) and the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) reached a settlement regarding a Grievance filed by the NSCCAU.
Grievance Casual appointments
The Union filed a grievance in the spring of 2022 with respect to the College hiring casual employees for multiple contracts at one time, which is in violation of the Collective Agreement.
ICH Update
The Academic Union under the umbrella group Faculty Duties Committee, has been working with the college to develop a new set of ICH guidelines as per the Memorandum of Understanding in our recently signed agreement.

Supreme Court Decision - Bill 75
On June 13, 2022, the Supreme Court of NS struck down Bill 75, the Teachers Professional Agreement and Classroom Improvements (2017) Act. Bill 75 imposed a contract on public school teachers.
